Udupi, Jun 2: Despite strong protest from shopkeepers as well as public, Shri Krishna Math has finally erected a huge gate near Gita Mandir in order to block the entry into the Math premises through the Car Street.

This is seen as the first step in evicting the shops and other small business concerns from Car Street.  The gate has been erected near the Gita Mandir on the road leading to Car Street from Bailakere.

Shri Krishna Math has been planning to evict the Car Street citing possible terrorist attack.  However, the public as well as the shopkeepers who own shops on the Car Street have opposed this step.  They have formed a committee through which they have made an appeal to the district police and town municipal council not to evict the Car Street.

On the other hand, Shri Krishna Math has planned to have its own security after the district administration refused their request to provide them with round the clock security.  Accordingly, the Math had called for applications from suitable candidates who if selected will be trained by the police department.  Once trained, these personnel will be appointed at these posts.

If Car Street is evicted then Shri Krishna Math is supposed to make alternative arrangements to the businessmen.
