New Delhi, March 12 (IANS): Delhi Police Wednesday filed a supplementary charge sheet against Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda over a 1994 case pertaining to recovery of explosive substances.

The charge sheet was filed before Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar.

Police told the court they would "clarify" the prosecution's case regarding charges slapped under the stringent Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) against Tunda.

The fresh charges came after a court's query seeking clarification on the issue, whether any fresh evidence emerged against Tunda while observing that earlier all other accused, arrested in the case, were discharged from TADA charges.

Police said the other five co-accused, who faced trial in the case earlier, were acquitted by a trial court in December 1999 for the alleged offences under TADA on "tactical grounds".

However, they were convicted under the Explosive Substances Act and on charges of criminal conspiracy.

The fresh charge said the designated court, at that time, while acquitting the five co-accused under the provisions of TADA, had said that Tunda was excluded from the observations.

"So, this interpretation is still open for this court for appreciation against Abdul Karim alias Tunda who is now charge-sheeted through this supplementary charge sheet in this matter," police said.

The court fixed the matter for further hearing April 22.

The court also allowed Tunda to talk to his Pakistan-based son on phone after his defence counsel M.S. Khan moved a plea seeking permission for it.

Tunda was declared a proclaimed offender in the case of recovery of explosive substances. The case was registered at south Delhi's Malviya Nagar police station in 1994.

Police also said some accused were arrested Jan 17, 1994, and 150 kg explosives and six daggers were seized from them.

Police said Tunda is involved in 33 bomb blasts in India between 1994 and 1998, 22 of those in Delhi. He was arrested in August 2013.
