Panaji, Jun 7: Completing a year in the saddle,  Goa's chief minister Pratapsingh Rane, admits that he needs more time to show his capability.

"A year is a very short time. Still we have managed to implement various schemes," Rane said few minutes after releasing a book listing state government's achievement for a year.

Rane government took over reigns of the state from BJP-led government when a section of BJP legislators changed their political loyalty, last year. And since then, the government is facing internal problems, which at time spills out in media and public.

But chief minister has no comments to offer on that. Instead he says," we had to contain the forces, which hitherto were engaged in dividing the society and destroying the secular fabric of Goans. Though there were couple of hiccups and an aberration on communal amity front, we have been able to maintain a firm grip on the law and order situation."

Rane government, which has to face state assembly elections next year, has a tough task to perform. Facing criticism from the party organization and at times from the alliance partners, Rane government has to satisfy people's expectation --- that too in a shortest time.

"I don't have a magic wand… but still we have done enough," the chief minister has commented in a vernacular newspaper today replying to a question about challenges.

While political parties have already began preparations for the elections slated next year, the chief minister will face a task of proving his capabilities and fighting back the election-related hiccups. The state congress has already shown signs of dissidence with town and country planning minister Atanasio Monserratte, staking his claim for the Goa Pradesh Congress committee chief's post.

For Pratapsingh Rane, who has more than 3 decades experience as a chief minister, the year to come will be a real testing period.
