Mangaluru, Aug 20: A theft attempt at Sri Chandramoulishwara Temple in Bellayaru was foiled in the early hours of Monday after security personnel monitoring CCTV cameras alerted police, leading to the suspect's immediate arrest.

The arrested person has been identified as Ravi, a native of Virajpet. He allegedly entered the temple premises and broke open three hundis in an attempt to steal the money. He was reportedly trying to break open another hundi when the theft attempt was detected.

The temple had reportedly witnessed a theft around a year ago. Following the earlier incident, the temple administration strengthened security by installing CCTV cameras with the assistance of Sign In Securities, a security agency based in Kundapura. A live monitoring system was also put in place.

In the early hours of Monday, the CCTV system captured a person moving suspiciously inside the temple premises and allegedly attempting to break open the hundis. Staff of Sign In Securities monitoring the cameras noticed the incident live and immediately alerted Mulki police.

Police personnel rushed to the temple and managed to take the suspect into custody. The prompt action prevented further theft of cash and valuables from the temple.

Mulki police have registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation. Police are also examining whether the suspect has any connection with the theft reported at the temple about a year ago.
