Karkala, Jun 16: Anthony D'Souza of BJP has been elected president of taluk APMC. The APMC president seat was vacant after the earlier president Dr Santhosh Kumar has resigned sometime ago.
In the APMC elections earlier BJP had won 8 seats while the Congress had grabbed 5 seats. But the then Congress led coalition government had appointed 3 members which had increased Congress' tally to 8 seats.
Since BJP and Congress had equal number of seats in the APMC, the president was elected by picking the lots in which Anthony had lost to Dr Santhosh Kumar.
However, as the state government changed, the government nominated members too lost their seats owing to which Congress lost its hold in APMC and Dr Santhosh resigned from his post.
Now that the new government has appointed 3 members to APMC which means that the number of BJP members has gone up to 11. So Anthony D'Souza was unanimously elected president to APMC.
