Buddha's name on bar's board in Italy sparks row

Rome, April 29 (IANS): Sri Lankans living in Italy have opposed the use of "Buddha" on a bar's name board, a media report said Tuesday.

The country's nationals living in Italy have urged the Sri Lankan embassy in Rome to take immediate actions to remove the holy name of Lord Buddha from the name board of the bar, according to Sri Lankan media.

Earlier this month, a female British tourist was detained at the Colombo international airport for having a Buddha tattoo on her arm.

Buddhism is the religion of the majority ethnic Sinhalese in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankans are highly sensitive about using any image or name associated with the Buddha, the report said.
