A workshop to create awareness about child labour was organized on Saturday in the deputy commissioner's office complex. District sessions judge G V Hegde inaugurated the workshop. DC Dr H V Parshwanath presided over the function. Senior high court advocate Prof Ravivarma Kumar, SDM Law College principal Prof B K Ravindra and child welfare committee Prof Hilda Rayappan were present on the dais as guests. CACLK convener Renny D'Souza welcomed the gathering.


A symposium on the changing role of women was held in the Town Hall. Social worker Veena Dhari and Hemavati Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala as guests, along with Lions district governor Kripa Alva, Lions Cauvery president Kavita Shastri, secretary Shamita Sanjay and treasurer Kavita Palke were present on the dais. Delhi Home Guards DGP Kiran Bedi IPS could not be present because the flight she arrived by could not land in Bajpe on Friday.

The PVS circle-Lal Bagh road which was made into a dual carriage and concreted about three years ago has developed dangerous cracks near the Jail Road cross. While a thirty-year guarantee was given to the road, it has given way within three years, casting severe doubts on the workmanship and quality of laying of concrete. The MCC did some patchwork on Saturday. The concreted road, laid with the purpose of obviating the bitumenization every now and them, itself has caved in, which has created public outrage here.
