Soldier killed in Afghanistan bomb blast

Kabul, May 7 (Xinhua): One soldier was killed and three wounded in a bomb attack in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar Wednesday, according to a source.

"An army jeep was struck by a roadside bomb in Zharay district at around 6.30 a.m., leaving one army soldier dead and three others wounded," a security official in the district told Xinhua.

The injured were shifted to an army hospital in the province, the source added.

Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban, is notorious for poppy cultivation and militancy.

The Taliban insurgent group fighting the government intensifies attacks in spring and summer, called the fighting season in the war-torn country.
