Panaji, Jun 27: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (YC) has urged the Government to immediately initiate the construction parallel bridge on river Zuari through Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation on war footing, within a record time.

The resolution was also passed to this effect at the state executive meeting held under the chairmanship of Girish Chodankar at YC headquarter Panaji.  The members felt that, considering the projects undertaken by GSIDC in Goa including bridges at Corjuem, Sanvordem and other places in a record time, this bridge should also be undertaken by GSIDC.

Members also felt that, GSIDC being corporation can overcome all bureaucratic hurdles and unnecessary delay.   Members also expressed full confidence Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane will able to complete the bridge on time considering most of the bridges in Goa had been constructed only due to untiring efforts and vision of Rane during his tenure as chief minister of Goa.

Members also expressed satisfaction over the arrangements at Cortalim after the closure of the bridge for heavy traffic after the initial problem to the passenger for first two days.   Youth Congress also constituted committee under the chairmanship of Joseph Vaz, and comprising of district presidents Sankalp Amonkar and Amarnath Panjikar, Eknath Shirodkar, Vithu Morazkar, Leena Travasso, Raymond D'Sa, Jamir Carol, Greg de Barros, Dr Bazil Dias, Hassan Sayed, Vijaykant Naik, Clement D'Sa and Sandeep Pednekar to oversee the problems if any to the commuters and report it to the government.

Meeting also reviewed it earlier decision to oppose introduction of English Medium at primary.  Chodankar briefed the meeting about the report of the committee of YC that visited Maharashtra to study the impact of introduction of English as oral subject to first standard in Marathi schools.  He also told the members about the meeting of the delegation to education Minister Luisinho Faleiro, who assured the YC delegation that introduction of English, is only as oral subject and no exams will be conducted and that students will have only to listen to the teacher during first six months

The students will learn alphabets only during second term.   The meeting decided to support the decision of the Government for the introduction of English as oral subject and has demanded to provide teachers with guide and training. Meeting also demanded with the education minister to invite teachers and resource persons from Maharashtra to share their experience of introducing of English in Maharashtra since last six years, so that educationists, primary teachers, parents and those concerned can interact with them.

The meeting also decided to counter BJP game plan of misguiding parents and people on the introduction of English and NCERT by holding meetings with parents explaining the benefits of the new changes.   It may be recalled that youth congress was the first political organization to oppose the government move to introduce English in first standard.

It was also decided to organize two days residential training camp in July and media management course for the block presidents in August.   Meeting also decided to complete block level booth conventions by end of July.

District presidents Sankalp Amonkar and Amarnath Panjikar presented their programme for the next two months.   Meeting also reviewed the working of various blocks.  Those prominently participated in the meeting included, vice- presidents Sheikh Hassan Mansoor, Mangaldas Mandrekar, treasurer Vithu Morazkar, general secretaries Dilip Dhargalkar, Yatin Borkar, district presidents Amonkar and Panjikar, Cell Chairman Sunil Azgaonkar, Sunil Khavtankar, Leena Travasso, Advisory Chairman Joseph Vaz and others.
