New Delhi, May 12 (IANS): Led by higher food prices, India's retail inflation rose to a three-month high of 8.59 percent in April from 8.31 percent in the previous month, government data showed Monday.
According to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Consumer Price Indices (CPI) based inflation rates for rural and urban areas for April 2014 were 9.25 percent and 7.69 percent, respectively.
Inflation rates for rural and urban areas for March 2014 were 8.89 percent and 7.51 percent, respectively.
The food inflation increased to 9.66 percent in April against 9.1 per cent in March.
Inflation in milk was 11.42 percent in April as against 11.02 percent in the previous month.
Vegetables became costlier by 17.5 percent in April as against 16.8 percent in March. The rate of price rise in fruits was 21.73 percent as against 17.19 per cent in the previous month.
