Udupi, Jun 29: The incessant rains which have already caused enough damage to property are now threatening to wash out the stretch of concrete road connecting Udyavar to Padukere.

The said stretch of concrete road is the longest concrete road in the entire state and was built under the Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana some years ago. The concrete road along the sea side.

Now the road is in danger of being washed out owing to sea erosion.  Raging waves had already engulfed about 160 metres of road at Udyavar a couple of years ago.  Though this stretch was not repaired, the waves were kept at bay by laying huge stones along the shore for nearly 150 metres.

But other than this particular part, the entire road is exposed very much to the rage of the sea.  Though there have been complaints about sea erosion, the authorities have done little enough to find a solution to protect the road.  Though stones have been laid in some places, these are no match to the raging waves.

At some places coconut trees which are along the shore have already been washed out.  Sea erosion at Padukere, Kanakoda and surrounding areas which posing a real danger to the 5.5 kilometre long concrete road.  Unless the authorities take some measures, the longest concrete road in the state would soon be a thing of the past.
