Mangalore, Jun 30:
District in-charge minister B Nagraj Shetty has drawn flak for his letter to chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on the issue of changing the reservation for the mayor's post.

This year, the mayor's post has been reserved for general lady category. The lady corporators of the ruling Congress have demanded an unconditional apology from the minister in this regard. Speaking to press persons on Thursday June 29, former mayor Hilda Alva said that the minister had no right to ask for changes in the reservation policy and alleged that he did not want any lady corporator to be elected as mayor.

The letter by Nagraj Shetty to the chief minister seeks review of the reservations to the general category for lady for the post of mayor and backward classes 'A' for deputy mayor. If the changes were to be made according to his request, it would mean that the election would be open for all corporators and even lady corporators had a chance to be elected.

The election for the post of mayor is slated to be held on July 24.
