Bangalore, June 30: After hanging for a long time, the helmet rule has finally reached a consensus and the Government has issued order to make wearing helmet mandatory, not only for the riders but also the pillion riders. However, the rule will be implemented only in areas coming under five City Corporations in the State — Mysore, Mangalore, Gulbarga, Belgaum and Hubli-Dharwad.

Though the order has been out, it will come into force only after issuing a gazette notification. The Government has made amendment in the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Act 1989 and said in its order that all motorcycle riders and pillion riders should wear helmets, quality of which is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Though the order is waiting for the gazette notification, the helmet rule is likely to be implemented by July 31, in all probabilities.
