Mangalore, Jul 1: Taluk panchayat chief executive officer has suspended Ulaibettu gram panchayat secretary Marcel D'Souza following complaints of lapse of duty.  Someshwar GP secretary Jayalakshmi has been given additional responsibility of Ulaibettu GP till the new secretary is appointed.

Marcel had been appointed secretary of Ulaibettu GP only a year ago.  Prior to that he was the secretary of Kolnad from where he was transferred after the people had complained about his negligence in carrying out his responsibilities.

But even at Ulaibettu he is said to have continued in the same manner.  Rarely did he come to the office.  But he used to maintain his attendance in the attendance register.  Having been addicted to alcohol, his treating of people too was not up to the mark.

There were complaints of corruption and swindling of funds too. He has also been accused of calling panchayat meeting without the knowledge of GP president.

Accordingly, the panchayat president Yousaf had recently complained about Marcel with the DK CEO who has now suspended him from service.
