Mangalore, July 2: Personnel of the Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) and Women's Police stations have in a joint operation busted a prostitution racket and arrested nine persons, including four men. A press release from B Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, here on Friday said the police had recovered Rs 7,065 from the accused.

The racket came to light based on a statement given by a woman who was arrested by the police in Hubli on Wednesday.

She reportedly told police there that she used to bring women involved in the racket from a hotel here and supply them to clients. She reportedly told the police that five women, who were involved in this racket, were lodged at the hotel here.

The Superintendent of Police, Dharwad, passed on this information to Dayananda here who ordered police to raid the hotel. During the raid, police arrested a couple and gained information about the whereabouts of other prostitutes after questioning the hotel manager.

A secret room on the third floor of the hotel, which could be accessed by a three feet by three feet door, was being used by the accused.

When those inside the room did not open the door, despite orders from the police, it was broken open. Police found five women who hail from Chennai, Mysore and Ramadurga.

Police have arrested Vikram Pillai alias Vikram Nayar who was running the lodge. They also arrested Uttaiah of Somwarpete and Ashraf and Venkatesh of Udupi.

The Women's Police Station here has registered a case under the Suppression of Immoral Traffic Act.
