Mangalore, May 18: "We lost the election due to anti-incumbency and rumor factors. In democracy, victory and losses are common. Congress has previously lost elections but people had brought them back to power. We will accept people's verdict," said district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai.

He was addressing a press meet here in district Congress office here on Sunday May 18.

He also said "During Indira Gandhi's regime Congress had witnessed defeat but later people accepted Congress. Manmohan Singh is an able economic scholar. During the economic crisis he has played a vital role. He implemented various projects like NREGA, RTI and so on. Let us see how they (BJP) will deal with petroleum, diesel, price rises."

"The defeat of Janardhana Poojary in the elections is painful for the Congress family," he stated.

Answering various questions from the media persons, Rai said " If we had lost  elections only in Dakshina Kannada we would have to bear the responsibility but we lost in Udupi, Uthara Kannada and Goa as well. Sincerely, all of us worked united and we worked for the party's victory. Within the party we will introspect this result.

On this occasion Ibrahim Kodijal, Mahabala Marla,Shashidar Hegde,Kalige Tharanath Shetty and Ivan D'Souza were present.

Congress failed to get young votes in its favor . In recent held Youth Congress Head of the District with other leaders have enrolled Youths from Other parties just to get votes and win the position . Congress Leadership aware of this should stop promoting these youths as it is the biggest threat to the party. Let the Youth Congress District head resign . There are few leaders here in the press conference have supported this act including few seniors. It is a real shame on the party men to support these activities in NSUI & Youth Congress.

As long as Mr. Rai is the district in charge minister, Dakshina Kannada cannot expect any development. This person should shed his dog in the manger attitude and strive to do something good for the people and the region. He should read the writing on the wall and pull up his socks at least now. Else he will be consigned to the oblivion. Mr. Ramanath Rai, please wake up at least now and remember that neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi has the charisma of the late Indira Gandhi.

You still are making stupid comments & expect people to believe you. Rather than being a leader, you were just a caretaker of the Maino's & Vinci's. JP dug his own grave by targeting Modis wife, rather than issues of the common man.

You are wrong Mr. Rai. Congress lost the elections due to corruption, policies against common man, stupid actions by Moily and other ministers, ministers serving Sonia Gandhi instead of Indian people are root causes for congress debacle. And congress deserves this miserable loss. Congress people were bothered about Narendra Modi's marital status and they ignored common man's sufferings.
