Panaji, Jul 2: The World Cancer Congress 2006 to be organized by International Union Against Cancer (UICC) and co-ordinated by American Cancer Society Inc will be held from July 9 to 12, 2006 in Washington, USA.
Dr Shekhar S Salkar, general secretary of the National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE-India), has been invited to participate as a presenter in the World Cancer Congress 2006.
Dr Salkar will participate in the Congress and will make an oral presentation of the paper on reducing the risk of tobacco-related cancer by a programme jointly carried out by a cancer NGO and another health related NGO.
In this paper are described the findings of a tobacco cessation project carried out by NOTE-India jointly with Lifeline Foundation in Indiranagar, Chimbel in Goa in 2003-04.
Dr Salkar will also make a poster presentation of a paper on training anganwadi workers for reducing risk of tobacco-related cancers, which is based on a research project done by NOTE-India for tobacco control in the Anganwadi areas of Bicholim Taluka in 2003-04.
The World Cancer Congress is held once in 4 years and is attended by more than a thousand cancer specialists and researchers from all over the world.
NOTE-India is honoured by being invited to make a presentation at this most prestigious international conference on cancer treatment and cancer control.
