Panaji, Jul 4: The state Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) has decided to ask for subsidized public transport passes for every day travellers in the state to save them from bearing the brunt of the inflation.

"Tickets have gone up following diesel and petrol prices.. There is inflation everywhere. An average working man spends half of his salary just to pay tickets to travel to his office and back. The state government can very well offer passes at subsidized rates on state-run Kadamba transport corporation buses," leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar told mediapersons on Tuesday.

The BJP, which is ready to take on Congress-led coalition government in the state during the state legislative assembly session starting from July 10, has decided to focus on the inflation in various prices as the major issue.

"All the necessary commodities have soared. It's difficult for common man to survive. Government can adopt various measures like reduction in value added tax (VAT) to give relief to the people," Parrikar said.

He said that there is a major concern about rising prices of essential commodities as Goa's traditional Ganesh Chaturthi festival is nearing.

"Government can reduce taxation.. such reduction is not going to harm the government much," the former chief minister said.
