Libyan PM's office attacked

Tripoli, June 4 (IANS): Libya's new Prime Minister Ahmed Maitiq's office was attacked by a grenade Wednesday, but he was not in the building.

The office was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in the early hours of Wednesday, Xinhua quoted an assistant to the premier as saying, adding that the grenade hit the government building and left a crater where Ahmed Maitiq's office is housed.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Maitiq, along with his ministers, had announced that he would take office Monday evening. In a statement, the new prime minister announced that his cabinet has begun working, despite his predecessor Abdullah Thinni having refused to transfer power.
