Policeman shot and injured in Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow, June 5 (IANS): A policeman was shot and injured in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district while he was checking vehicles, police said Thursday.

To check the movement of some criminals, a police picket at Jansath police outpost was checking all the vehicles passing on the route, police said.

When constable Ashok Tiwari approached a vehicle to check it, the passengers opened fire at him hitting him in the back Wednesday night, police said.

The injured policeman was rushed to a hospital in Agra where his condition is stated to be serious. The assailants managed to escape, added police.

A case was registered against unknown people and six persons were detained on suspicion of being involved in the attack.
