Mumbai, Jul 13: Panic-gripped commuters at the Bhayender Railway station in neighbouring Thane district when they saw leather bags being dumped into an adjoining creek by four persons, who were later arrested, police said.
The suspects had thrown the bags into the creek when the passing commuters noticed them and raised an alarm, leading to their arrest, police said.
Attempts are on to fish out the bags from the creek, Railway Police Commissioner Suresh Khopde told PTI.
However, he said it was too premature to comment on the contents of the bags.
Khopde said a large number of people have gathered at the spot and the priority of the police was to find the bags' contents and dispel fears from people's minds.
