Seven students, woman hurt in bus accident at Belapu

Udupi, Jun 18: In yet another accident, seven students and a woman were injured when a bus overturned at Belapu here on Wednesday June 18 after its axle broke.

The Sahara bus was plying from Manchakal to Mulky via Belapu Uchila when the accident took place.


It is said that while the bus was passing by the house of A K Sulaiman at Paniyoor-Belapu, the rear end of its axle suddenly broke and the driver lost control of the bus. As a result, it overturned such that it obstructed almost the entire road from end to end.

There were about 15 passengers in the bus, out of which eight including seven students were injured and rushed to various hospitals by private vehicles and ambulance.

Students Karthik, Likhita, Kavya and Geeta sustained minor injuries while Naveen, Lalita and another woman suffered bone injuries. Another boy, identified as Sushan studying in class 1, was injured on his legs.

Kaup circle inspector Sunil Nayak, Padubidri inspector Azmat Ali, and Kaup inspector Rajendra Nayak rushed to the spot.

A case has been registered in Shirva police station.
