Mangalore, Jun 20: "On Monday June 23, we are going to hold a protest rally from Benjanapadav Kalpane to minister B Ramanath Rai's residence in Kallige demanding a fresh investigation into the murder of Bajrang Dal member Rajesh Poojari and we want the case to be handed over to the CID,” said Muneer Katipalla, DYFI president, during a press meet on Thursday June 19.
"When Rajesh was murdered, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal gave a few days’ deadline to apprehend the culprits. In this case, police inspector B R Lingappa and former Bantwal circle inspector Rajshekar Mesthri had arrested the innocent people of Mallur village. Imran, Irshad, and Hussain were those arrested. Without conducting any scientific investigation, the police issued the report that the arrested were the true culprits. The same copy was submitted in court, but there is no evidence to prove them guilty,” he added.
Katipalla also said the case should be given to the CID for further investigation.
"Though we protested many times seeking a fresh investigation, neither MLA Mohiuddeen Bava nor Rai ever responded. They are fit only to attend programmes. They never visited the houses of those arrested to enquire after them,” he said.
Jabbar Mallur, Asif, and Abdullah were also present at the meeting.
