Beltangady, Jul 24: The police seized leopard skin worth Rs 1 lac and arrested one person in this connection in front of the St Thomas Church at Gandibagilu near here on Saturday July 22 night.
The Beltangady police led by circle inspector Subhashchandra had received a sure tip-off that one person was smuggling leopard skin, which was removed after a killing a leopard in the nearby reserve forest area.
Accordingly police stopped one bike in front of the St Thomas Church at Gandibagilu. The bike was ridden by P V Devasya (39) of Kerala. The police found leopard skin on the petrol tank of the bike. He was immediately arrested.
The initial enquiry also revealed that he was killing animals and selling its skin in different states. The police also found a country-made gun in his house for which he did not have any licence.
The total value of the seized bike and two leopard skins is said to be Rs 1 lac. The Beltangady police have registered a case in this regard.
