Mangalore: FMMCH to host seminar on narcotic awareness on Jun 28

Mangalore, Jun 26: “The de-addiction treatment unit of Fr Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH), Kankanady, is organizing a seminar on the topic ‘Give Importance to Health in Life, and Not Narcotic Things’ at the Vailankanni Ward on the hospital premises on Saturday June 28, to mark ‘World Narcotic Abuse and Anti-Illegal Trafficking Day’”, said Dr Aruna Idya, addressing media persons at the Press Club on Wednesday June 25.

Fr Muller Multi-Specialty Medical College Hospital runs a 60-bed de-addiction and rehabilitation centre (Vailankanni Ward) for individuals dependent on alcohol and other drugs.


The centre, located within the premises of FMMCH, offers a one-month residential treatment programme by a team of component professionals, comprising of psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, and nursing staff skilled in their area of specialization and deeply committed to their mission.

The college observes World Narcotic Abuse and Anti-Illegal Trafficking Day every year and this year with a view to creating awareness, we have organized this seminar in the de-addiction centre. The event is to be inaugurated by Dr K S Shetty, MD, psychiatric division, while Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCI, is to preside over the event.

Two different sessions are to be held on the occasion—‘The Legal Aspects with Regard to Narcotic Abuse’, is a topic that is to be taken by Dr Sharanappa SD, IPS, superintendent of police, Mangalore, while ‘The Effects of Narcotic Abuse’ will be by Dr Aruna, MD, psychiatric surgeon, FMMCH.

Dr Sripathi Bhat and Dr Rudresh were also present on the occasion.
