Mangalore, Jun 27: Seven persons, who have been accused of stealing pepper worth over eight lac rupees from a godown in Moodbidri and also hatching a plan to rob houses of rich personalities including Radhika Kumaraswamy, were remanded to four days police custody by the court here.
The accused, Harish K Poojary, Navin Kumar, Sukhesh Shetty, Yogeesh Poojary, Yogeesh Salian, Pratap Rai, and Mahesh had been arrested by the policemen on Wednesday. During their questioning, their intention to use proceeds of sale of pepper stolen by them for acquiring services of expert robbers and weapons to execute their plan, was revealed. When they were produced in the residence of the judge on Wednesday evening, all of them were remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
On Thursday, police circle inspector, Anantapadmanabha, who happens to be the investigating officer in the case, moved an application seeking police custody of the accused, to enable police to extract more details of their past criminal activities and plans of the arrested persons. Although the advocate for the accused opposed the application, the judge upheld the police argument and permitted four days police custody of the arrested accused.
The policemen say they have, during the questioning, come to know that the accused were in constant contact with Ravi from Mumbai, who is the main accused in the murder of Sulaiman from Karkala.
