Mumbai, June 27: Thiya Samaja, Mumbai held a programme in their Ghatkopar east office on Sunday evening, June 22 to distribute
scholarships to derserving students. These programmes are being held by Thiya Samaja every year.
The programme was presided over by Thiya Samaja president Chandrashekar R Belchada. Members of the committee of trustees,
Shanker C Salian, sponsors of the scholarships Bhavani Sunder and office bearers of the association were present. Executive president of the committee of trustees, Rohidas S Bangera lit the traditional lamp and set the programme in motion. He also distributed scholarships to several children of the community present there.
Speaking during his presidential address, Chandrashekar Belchada said that teaching is universal and has no religion. "Education is
virtually responsible for the progress of people. It is advocated till the downtrodden class of society is educated and is inescapable due to liberalization. These days when the parents get educated along with their children, it is necessary to give due importance to it. We are holding programmes such as these in order to create an awareness in society and spread the knowledge on education," he added.
"We are distributing scholarships so that the children of our community should not be deprived of education just because we belong to the backward class. The programmes are meant to clear the difficulties faced by parents to educate their children towards a better future," said Rohidas Bangera.
He hoped and wished that the programmes may help the children select their careers.
Shanker Salian said that education is similar to a hand held mirror. "The associations of different communities have indulged in informing the usefulness of people after studies. Thiya Samaja also is active in those lines," he said.
Donors Venkappa Ullal, Bhavani Sunder, Vrinda Dinesh, Sridhar Bangera, Sudhakar T Bangera, honorary treasurer Ramesh N Ullal, joint secretary Mohan B M, joint treasurer Sunder I L, western range zonal committee executive president Narayan Salian, women's wing executive president Divya Kotian, east zonal regional committee executive president Kappunji Bangera, women's group president Ujwal Chandrashekar, health committee president Thimmappa Bangera, former vice president Sudhakar Uchil and office bearers of sub-committees were present.
Hundreds of Thiya Samaja community members participated in the programme. Vice president Babu T Bangera welcomed the gathering. Thiya Belaku newspaper editor Sridhar S Suvarna compeered and read the list of beneficiaries. Honorary chief secretary Ail Babu proposed the vote of thanks.
