Kundapur, Jun 30: The opposition party questioned the town municipality’s habit of making people wait for resolution of issues by stating government orders as the reason, in the town council meeting.
Reacting to the issue of increase in water tax, the town municipal council president U S Kalavathi said, “An order has been received from the DC office and there is also a notice not to decrease the water tax.”
Reacting to this, Rajesh Kaveri questioned why water tax is less in other parts of the district and why the government order is applicable only to Kundapur Town Muncipal Council.
The former president said that it is not proper to threaten people and say that this is the government’s order and told the council to use its power and reduce tax.
In the beginning of the meeting, waste management problems were also discussed and the administration was accused of having failed in waste management as the council vehicles are supposed collect to waste from the streets. On this issue, Mohandas Shenoy said it was due to labour problems. Shenoy also said that currently outside labourers are paid Rs 5,000 per month and if salary is increased there will not be any shortage of labourers and a decision needs to be taken on this.
Raviraj Karvi said that there are many illegal petty shops on the main road and commuters find it difficult to walk. He also questioned what action had been taken to check food quality in fast food centers.
The council president said that if everyone supports the decision for the removal of illegal petty shops, the work will be done tomorrow itself. A ruling party member said that if petty shops were being removed, Bombay Bazaar and Fashion Center must also be done away with.
When it was questioned why the members had not been informed of the DC’s visit, Lalavathi said, “He came for a technical report and members’ report was not essential.” Shenoy asked, “Why have ZP and Taluk panchayath engineers not come? People are questioning about the poor work. Once again invite the DC and help us to solve the problem.” Shridhar Sherigar and Chandrashekar Kharvi demanded addition of the name of the contractor in the black list and stopping payment of his bill.
On this occasion, the Town Muncipal Council CEO Gopal Krishna Shetty, vice--president Nagaraj Rao Kamadhenu, and standing committee president Uday Mendon were present.
