Mangalore, Jun 30: The Street Vendors Association under the banner of CITU organized a protest in front of the MCC office against the eviction of street vendors and demolition of petty shops here.
Addressing the protest, honorary president of the Street Vendors Association, Sunil Kumar Bajal said, "The street vendors bill was passed in 2012 and the state government had directed for implementing of guidelines of the street vendors bill. Hence in the district, a town vendors committee has been formed."
"During the first meet, the deputy commissioner had asked to hold a survey to issue ID cards and provide various benefits. But now the MCC officials without bringing to the notice of the street vendors committee, hold drives to evict the vendors and demolish their petty shops," he added.
"Without considering the committee, MCC administration is attacking the poor people. Though there are many star hotels, builders acquire the government lands and these officials have no guts to question them. This protest will be carried out till evening since there is an MCC meet; everyone should understand our trauma," he concluded.
Mohammed Mustaffa, president and Santhosh Kumar were present.
