Mangalore, Jun 30: City police commissioner R Hitendra on Monday June 30 released stickers specially printed for the media so that their vehicles would be recognized easily leaving no room for confusion.

Releasing the media stickers at the Press Club here, Hitendra said that there have been incidents wherein some people have falsely claimed to be reporters, and hence a unique sticker for identification would help sort out this problem, especially when VVIPs or state/national leaders visit the city.

He also warned against abusing the media sticker and said that the department has introduced an identification system through which the police will keep track of the media persons who use the stickers. He further said that the stickers have holograms and unique identification numbers.

ACP Udaya Nayak said that with these stickers, media persons would not face any hurdles over entry into important events. The police would have booklets with details of those who possess the stickers, which would help them in keeping track and ensure that the stickers were not misused by unauthorized persons.

President of Dakshina Kannada district working journalists union (DKDWJU) P B Harish Rai welcomed the gathering and explained the procedure to procure the stickers. Each media firm can avail two media stickers, he said.

Dakshina Kannada district information officer Khader Shah and secretary of DKDWJU Srinivas Nayak were present.
