Moodbidri, Jul 12: An attempt was made to kill the driver of an auto rickshaw by using a water tanker here on the evening of Friday July 11.
The driver of the water tanker in question deliberately collided with the auto rickshaw being driven by the said driver, before putting his
vehicle on reverse gear and hitting the auto rickshaw for the second time from the rear side, in an attempt to kill the driver.
The incident occurred near Kallabettu Marigudi near here. Altaf (28), the auto rickshaw driver targetted by the water tanker, was admitted to Alva's Hospital with injuries. Altaf is a resident of Paper Mill area in the town. Shashidhar and Suresh from Mangalore, who were in
the auto rickshaw at the time with Altaf, escaped with minor injuries.
Reportedly, Altaf had bought a television set from a shop in Moodbidri. He had availed loan a from a financial concern in Mangalore for this purchase. It is said that his cousin named Bavu from Kallabettu had paid the margin amount of Rs 7,000 towards this loan. The television set was kept in Bavu's home. Altaf had paid a few installments and had asked Bavu to pay the remaining five installments.
It is said that Bavu deliberately kept these installments pending without making payments. After Altaf started receiving repeated calls from the private financial concern, putting pressure on him to repay installments due to them, Altaf got fed up and asked the company to take back the television set, as he is unable to repay the installments anymore.
The finance company deputed its employees named Shashidhar and Suresh to Moodbidri for taking possession of the television set financed by it. They visited the house of Bavu in Kallabettu in the Altaf's auto. After picking the television set from Bavu's house, they started their
journey back to Moodbidri in Altaf's vehicle. On coming to know of this development, Bavu got angry, started towards his home in a water tanker from his workplace.
It is gathered that, when he saw Altaf's auto at Kallabettu Marigudi, he hit the auto rickshaw with his tanker and went ahead. He then put the vehicle on reverse and banged the auto from the rear. Bavu then drove his vehicle away.
Moodbidri police have registered an attempt to murder case against Bavu and have undertaken investigation into this case.
