Need to address concerns of youths: Rajnath Singh


New Delhi, July 17 (IANS): An atmosphere should be created to help youths pursue their goals and excel in chosen fields, union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here Thursday.

"There is need to create an atmosphere where youths are able to pursue their goals and excel in their chosen fields," he said while inaugurating a World Population Day 2014 function.

He said India has one of the world's largest adolescent and young populations.

Rajnath Singh said total population of young people in the age group 10-24 years was about 36.50 crore and every fifth person in the country is an adolescent in the age group 10-19 years.

Citing this year's theme 'Investing in Young People in India', he said there was an urgent need to address concerns of the youths.

The minister also commended the support extended by the UN agencies such as United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Unicef to jointly produce software based modules CensusInfo India and YouthInfo India portal. He also launched the modules.

The function was jointly organised by the office of the registrar general and census commissioner and UNFPA.
