Udupi, July 19: "Associations in schools and colleges have decided to conduct Vanamahotsavas in their respective institution. Such steps should arrest the rise of prices by growing vegetables for the mid-day meal in schools," said Arun Shetty Padooru, president of Udupi zilla panchayat agricultural and industries committee.
He was speaking after setting in motion an environment awareness programme Vanamahotsava and sapling distribution jointly held by Kaup JCI, Jaycerette, Young Jaycees and Dandatheertha Educational Institute at Kaup Dandatheertha Educational Institute on Friday July 18.
He said that there are opportunities to conduct workshops and demonstrations regarding cultivation and horticulture related
projects that are planned in schools and colleges and educational institutions should come forward to make use of the facilities.
M Neelananda Naik, principal of Kaup Dandatheertha Educational Institutes presided over the programme. Alban Rodrigues, manager of
the institute and Kaup JCI president Anil Kumar conveyed their best wishes.
Rakesh Kunjoor, immediate past president of Kaup JCI, president Yogish Rai, Jaycerette president Saumya Anil, Dandatheertha English Medium department head Chitralekha Shetty, Kannada Medium department head Tulasi and student leader Charisma were present.
Institute student Tripti welcomed the gathering while Disha Tantri gave information on the nature day.
Sufaila proposed the vote of thanks and Jailin Jathanna compeered the programme.
