Mangalore, Aug 12: After a long gap of about a month, incessant rains accompanied with heavy winds continued to lash the district since Thursday night.
Though no loss of life has been reported from any quarter of the district, about three to four country boats which were parked at Panambur collided against each other. Property worth more than Rs 6 lac is said to have been damaged in the mishaps. Heavy winds said to be the reason for the mishap. In fact, more than 25 country boats were parked in the vicinity. Fishing nets and other equipments have been damaged.
A case has been reported in this regard at Panambur police station.
Tree uprooted
Meanwhile, a huge tree was uprooted near Bunts Hostel following heavy rains on Friday evening. Power supply lines were damaged in the mishap. A huge hoarding averted a major mishap as the huge tree fell on the hoarding. Traffic also was disrupted for some time.
Rainfall
Beltangady recorded the highest rainfall (100 mm) in the last 24 hours while Bajpe recorded 94.6 mm rainfall. The rainfall amount in other areas are Uppinangady (88.2 mm), Puttur (76 mm), Bantwal (74 mm), Sullia (62.2 mm) and Mangalore (53.2 mm).
