Abu Dhabi, Aug 13: It's true that Mangaloreans have created a special niche for themselves in education. If Mangalore is famous for educational institutions, Mangaloreans, wherever they are, shine in studies and many are tops.
Jim Walton D`Souza, son of Walter and Janette D`Souza hailing from Pernal (Sooda), Udupi, is one student who was disappointed a little when the PUC result was first announced in last June. He was justifiably upset over having secured just 85 marks in Mathematics while he had hoped for a much higher level, thereby missing the top position in the school.
Confident Jim with the encouragement from his parents applied for a revaluation of his answer paper and when the revised result arrived, could only jump with elation. The actual marks he secured was 95. That made him stand second in the Abu Dhabi Indian High School with an aggregate score of 93%, just a single mark behind the first place !
Jim's father Walter D’souza was proud of his son and speaking to daijiworld he said, "I had great faith in my son's success. He is brilliant and and I was sure he deserved better marks."
"..When you have confidence in you, you must fight, and then success will be yours. With the first result if we would have kept quiet. We would not have achieved success and there would not have been any end for my son's disappointment"
Jim is currently doing his B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering in National Institute of Technology, Trichy. (NIT-Trichy).
It is not only studies for him, He excels in extracurricular activities too. He represented the school in Zonal-level Table Tennis tournament and participated in the UAE as well Oman; he could not participate in Doha, though he was qualified.
He has tremendous interest in sports, esp. football, basketball and chess. He always likes and always come out with success. But he concentrates on studies more"
His general knowledge is great, and he excels in Quiz too.
In short, he is an all-rounder. May Jim inspire the younger generation and may more such talents come to light.
His younger brother Joy Winston is studying in Std XI in Indian High School Abu Dhabi. According to Walter, Joy too is showing signs of walking in the footsteps of his elder brother.
