Couple jumps on Delhi Metro track, injured

New Delhi, July 23 (IANS): A couple received injuries after they jumped on a Metro track here Wednesday morning, police said.

The incident was reported at 10.27 a.m. from the Chhatarpur Metro station in south Delhi.

Amit Chauhan, 28, and Mohini, 25, jumped on the track when a Metro train, heading towards Huda City Centre in Gurgaon, arrived on platform Number 1 at the station.

"Luckily, the train stopped as soon as the couple jumped on the track. They received some injuries but were stated to be out of danger at the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences)," said a police official.

"During initial inquiry, we came to know about a love angle behind their attempt to commit suicide," said the official.

He added objections from families to their relationship may have compelled the duo to attempt to end their lives.

Chauhan belongs to Kalka in Haryana and has completed his M.Tech. from Kurukshetra University while Mohini hails from Ambala in Haryana and has been pursuing B.Tech. fourth year course from the same university.

Police said Mohini resides in Delhi as she is preparing for competitive examination to take admission in M.Tech.
