Udupi, Jul 26: The CPI (M) staged a protest against the increase in harassment of women and demanded justice for Ratna Kottari’s family on Friday July 26, near Clock Tower, service bus stand, Udupi.

Balakrishna  Hegde, CPI(M) secretary, expressed his worry about the future and alleged that if it continues the same way, it is certain that our culture will lose its value. The assault on women is not only physical but also mental harassment.

He alleged that the new economic policy of India, globalization, liberalization, and privatization is also promoting such cruel activities. “The entire system demands money; rich people will become richer and the poor will go down in society. So, it would be a cause for cultural decline,” added Hegde.

He urged stern action against the culprits in the Kottari case.  “The police department must take preventive measures to control the crimes against women and facilitate a good transport system to rural areas,” he added.
