Mangalore, Aug 4: ‘A True Treasure of Reading Pleasure’, a book penned by author Heroor Padmanabha Shetty, was released by famous litterateur Dr Aerya Lakshminarayan Alva on Sunday August 3 at T V Ramana Pai Hall, Navabharath Circle, Mangalore.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest of the programme, Dr Shantharam Shetty praised the author and said that he is a role model to all.

"The only claim I can make is that I know the author from the past 30 years. Heroor family is very famous and the very first IAS officer was from the Heroor family. The book, ‘A True Treasure of Reading Pleasure’ will truly inspire the youth of this generation. In this book, there are 361 pages and of that 39 pages are introduction of the Heroor family,” he added.

After releasing the book, Dr Alva said, “When a writer is trying to create one sentence, he tries to put as many beautiful words as possible into that sentence. The writer tries to put all his efforts into the book. The children of this generation have forgotten Kannada language as they speak English wherever they go. Even at home they call their parents and relatives ‘dad’, ‘mom’, ‘uncle’, and ‘aunt’. But the children are too forward and this book shows how society grows.”

In the heart of the ceremony, the author was felicitated and Shivaram Adithai read out the citation.

Dr Vinay Hegde, chairman, Nitte Education Trust, in his presidential speech, said, “The words which are used in the book are amazing and these will inspire you to keep on reading it.”

“Heroor family is a joint family and everyone looks after one another. In case any joint family breaks, the relationship between them is broken and it results in a communication gap. If you want to be a confident or strong person, you require your family’s support,” he added.

Talking about Indian culture, Dr Hegde said, “No Indian should forget their culture. Everyone should believe in their own culture because our country is filled with various traditions and rituals.”

Heroor Rajaram Alva welcomed the guests while Vinaya Rai, granddaughter of Heroor Padmanabha Shetty, proposed the vote of thanks.

Srinath Hegde, Madan Mohan, Bhaskar Shetty, and Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank, were also present on the occasion.
