Dhaka, Aug 16 (IANS): Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Friday arrested the son of the owner of passenger ferry that capsized earlier this month in the Padma river, leaving at least 46 people dead and 61 others still missing, a media report said.

Omar Faruk Limon, 27, was arrested from capital Dhaka's Khilkhet area Friday morning, bdnews24.com quoted RAB's legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud as saying.

Limon is said to be in-charge of the overall supervision of the double-decker ferry, MV Pinak, which capsized with some 250 passengers on board in central Bangladesh's Munshiganj district Aug 4.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) filed a case against six people including Limon and the vessel's owner Abu Bakar Siddik Kalu.

RAB arrested Kalu from Chittagong Wednesday morning.

Despite hectic efforts, divers could not locate any object or image of the sunken in the river due to strong currents.

Like many other Dhaka-bound ferries, the ill-fated water taxi was excessively overcrowded, some survivors alleged.

Some 120 people were either rescued or managed to swim ashore after the ferry capsized in high winds and rains.
