Mangalore, Sep 2: Most of the rickshaw owners' and drivers' associations have opposed the implementation of revised fare and have decided not to implement it for the next one week.

Addressing a press conference here Dakshina Kannada Autorickshaw Drivers' Association president Ivan D'Souza said that the RTA, while revising the fare has not taken into the consideration the demands placed by the rickshaw unions.  He said that the district administration has meted out injustice to auto drivers with 10% hike in the fare.

As per the revised fare the commuters will have to pay Rs 11 as minimum fare, that is, for the first 1.5 kilometres and Rs 7 for the subsequent kilometres.  However, Ivan said that they had demanded for Rs 12 for the first 1.5 kilometres and Rs 7.50 for the subsequent kilometres.

He further said that they would give one week's time to the administration to consider their demands and till then they will not implement the revised fare.  "If administration fails in doing justice to us, we would chalk out the future course of action," he added.
