Udupi, Aug 22: The CPI (M) staged a protest on Thursday August 21, near Clock Tower, Service Bus Stand, demanding stern action in the Ratna Kottari death case and control of women’s harassment.
Balakrishna Shetty, secretary, CPI (M), expressed suspicions that Kottari’s death was unnatural. “Sexual harassment and rape occur every day, but no one punishes the real culprits. There is no protection and current events are contrary to Gandhiji’s principles,” he added.
He alleged that women are becoming a commodity and reflecting as goods in advertisements. “This might be one of the causes for motivating distorted minds. Ironically, while science is developing on one side, our government has failed to control inhuman activities,” added Shetty.
The committee organized a rally that started on Tuesday August 19 led by U S Kalavathi, Kundapur town council, and this will conclude on Friday August 22. K S Vimala, leader of Janavadi Mahila Organization will be present in the rally.
K Laxman, Godwin Fernandez, Vital Pujary, Sujatha Pujary, Vishwanath Rai, and K Shettigar were present.
