Kasargod: Police arrest three for trying to create communal tension

Kasargod, Aug 24: The policemen working under the guidance of district superintendent of police, Thomson Jose, succeeded in arresting three persons, who have been accused of trying to create disharmony in the society through their acts.

Reportedly, the three had removed panchaloha ornaments from the idol of Sri Koragataniya Daiva in Kalyangadu Goddess Mookambika Temple near Meepuguri here and thrown them into bushes. They also had pelted stones at some neighbouring houses there, and damaged them, it is said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Muhammed Shervani (21) from Kalyamgadu in Ramdasnagar, Muhammed Siyad (20), living in Latif Quarters Meepuguri and Muhammed Arshad (33), who resides in Padoor Complex in Meepuguri. The motor bike the three had used for the said crime was confiscated.

It is learnt that the motor bike the trio had used to reach the spot had developed snags when they tried to flee from the spot unnoticed. They were forced to abandon the motor bike there before escaping. The policemen, who followed the lead provided by the stranded motor bike, could unearth the identities of people behind the incident.

Relating to the incident, a case stands registered at the town police station here against six persons. The policemen said that the main aim of the accused in throwing ornaments into the bushes and pelting stones at some houses was to give rise to communal clashes. Additional police contingents stand posted at strategic points to ensure that the above incident does not give rise to retaliatory measures.
