Volleyball tourney for schools of Mangalore taluk held

Mangalore, Aug 26: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath, Public Education Department, Regional Education Director's Office, Mangalore North and Pompei PU College, Talipady jointly organised Mangalore Taluk level Volleyball Tournament for the primary and high school students in the Pompei PU college grounds.

Asha R Suvarna, member of Zilla Panchayath innagurated the tournament. Shyamala Hegde, president, Kinnigoli Panchayath presided over the function. Fr Paul Pinto, Correspondent of Pompei Institutions blessed the ocassion. Maxim Pinto, president PTA association of Pompei PU College and Alwyn Saldanha were on the dais. Fr Jerome D'souza, Principal of the College welcomed the guests and participants. Sudhir Hegde, PT Director proposed the vote of thanks and Winnifred D'souza compered the programme.

24 teams from Mangalore Taluk participated in the tournament. The winners were:

Primary school section:

Boys: Winners: Bharathi Hr Pry School, Kulai
         Runners Up: Mary Wale Hr Pry School, Kinnigoli
Girls: Winners: Marywale Hr Pry School, Kinnigoli
         Runners Up: Little Flower School, Bajpe

High school section:
Boys: Winners: St Aloysius School, Urwa
          Runners Up: Sri Narayana Guru High school, Mulki
Girls: Winners: St Ann's High School, Mangalore
         Runners Up: Ladyhill Victoria Girls High School, Mangalore

During the validictory ceremony held in the evening Fr Jerome D'souza, principal of the Pompei PU College distributed the prizes and trophies.
