Kasargod, Aug 27: Railway police have arrested a thief who stole cash and jewelery from a railway employee.

The arrested identified as Sakaria (29) is a resident of Koyikkode Tamaracherry. He has been arrested for assaulting and robbing cash and jewelery from Kumble railway station employee Suma (26) resident of Palakkad.

The incident occurred in the morning on August 14. Suma was traveling in a passenger train from Mangalore to Koyikkode. While the train was about to reach Manjeshwar railway station at about 5.30 am, the youth entered the compartment and tried to snatch Suma's gold chain of Suma and when she resisted, he assaulted her. The youth pushed Suma aside and as the train reached Manjeshwar railway station had jumped off it and fled.

Suma was alone in the compartment when the incident occurred. The police said that when the suspect was arrested and questioned by the railway police with regard to a pick pocket, he confessed that he was also involved in the Manjeshwar incident.
