Mumbai, Aug 29: Producers of the movie 'Mary Kom' are working on getting the state government to release the movie in the state of Manipur which has banned all movies and TV shows for the past fourteen years. Their primary argument is the fact that the movie is based upon the life of Olympic boxing champion Mary Kom who hails from Manipur.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the movie is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the character of the five time boxing champion has been essayed by actress Priyanka Chopra. Priyanka Chopra said that she hoped the movie would garner more audiences given that it was a movie about the life of a woman who faced adversities to make her country proud.

Speaking more on the movie, the actress also said that the fact the Maharashtra government had not imposed taxes for the showing of the movie in the state would go a long way in bringing in more people to watch it. She also said that the movie was a tribute to all the sports persons who faced grave personal peril to bring unparalleled fame to their country.

Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali expressed gratitude to the Maharashtra government for their grand gesture and also said that it would help recognise the spirit of the film and evoke support for it. The movie is based on the true story of National boxing Champion Mary Kom.
