450 injured in Pakistan clashes

Islamabad, Aug 31 (IANS): At least eight protesters were reported killed and 450 people injured in clashes with police in Pakistan as anti-government protests continue in the capital city of Islamabad.

The clashes broke out Saturday night when supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) started marching towards the Prime Minister's House to stage a sit-in there, Xinhua reported.

PAT leader Tahir-ul-Qadri claimed that his party's seven workers were killed by the police and many others were brutally injured by steel and rubber bullets.

PTI's chief Imran Khan said one of his workers was killed and scores of others injured in clashes.

However, Defence Minister Khawja Asif rejected the claims by the opposition leaders, saying no one was killed in the clashes.

Officials, however, confirmed that 240 injured people, including six children and 40 women, were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences while 210 others - among them five children and 25 women - were shifted to Poly Clinic Hospital.

The injured people also included over 40 policemen and six journalists.

The protest leaders said that clashes broke out when police burst teargas shells to disperse the protesters marching in the capital's high security area Red Zone for staging a sit-in outside the Prime Minister's House.

However, the country's Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said the protesters were carrying clubs in their hands and were aiming to enter sensitive government buildings.

During the clashes, some protesters also entered the Parliament House by breaking its outer barrier.

The protesters later retreated on the orders of the Pakistan Army personnel who were deployed in the area.

Police have arrested over 500 workers and shifted them to undisclosed locations.

The PTI leadership has announced a countrywide protest Sunday against the incident, while some other parties have supported the call.

Another opposition party, the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and also announced it would observe one-day mourning in Karachi.

Following the clashes, party workers of the PTI and PAT started protests and blocked main roads in other major cities, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi.

Thousands of supporters of the two parties started their two separate long marches from the eastern city of Lahore Aug 14 and reached Islamabad Aug 15.

The protesters later marched towards Red Zone Aug 19 and staged a sit-in in front of the Parliament House.

Both parties have held rounds of talks with the government for their demands. The talks, however, remained deadlocked.

PTI chief Imran Khan, whose party has 34 seats in the lower house, alleged Sharif rigged in the 2013 general elections.

He has been demanding a probe into the rigging by a panel of the country's apex court followed by free and fair re-elections.

The PAT workers have been protesting for their 10-point agenda, including the resignation of the prime minister and the registration of a murder case against 21 people, including the prime minister, over police firing at protesters on June 17 in Lahore.

this was evident, when the country was built on the basis of "religious hatred" and aided by our own secular netas!! they have no respect for minorities there! they have no respect for contstituion and Army is very power hungry!... always army does the coup and overthrows a democratically elected govt and this time around, since, "FOREIGN million USD aid" is important, as it is on the verge of failure, Army used "Paki Kejri Imran Khan and Qadri"! slowly now they will take over!! Imran khan will get chombu finally!

so, far they gave money to Kejri and gang and tried to create instability... but every Indian, is smart and made right choice of majority BJP govt! Let Pakis now suffer, in the hands of their own ISI, Army and fanatic courts!

On India's part we did right, by inviting them to swearing in, and showing interest in peace and bilateral treaties.. however, they wanted to create mess in Kashmir by talking to seperatists... now let them handle their own seperatists... something to keep them busy for few days, and stop their evil designs elsewhere!! tathaastu!!

    pakistan should concentrate on
its internal problems rather than harping about kashmir issue.
no one can take a inch of land which has been claimed by strong
militarily and economical powerhouse nations like usa, russia
india and china.pok will remain in pak, tibet will remain with china,
aksai chin will remain with china.no one can change this.even after 68 years
its funny that pak is claiming kashmir!.pak should see the ukraine
example.russia has already sent its tanks inside ukraine and usa with all its might could not
do anything against russia.same with pak.they can only create noise.but taking kashmir away
from india will be only a dream.pok occupied by pak has been infiltrated by pakistans who are not kashmiris.
what will pak do if india sends 5 crore of non kashmiris to settle in kashmir which has 50 lakh kasmiris.
by doing this indian can finish the case once and for all.lolz

The Pakis are not blessed to live in a democratic way for long. Political or religious unrest is their way of life and it is in their history. Popularly elected leaders have no voice they are just the puppets in the presence of influential ISI/military power. India has to be on high alert in the event of current developments in Pakistan.

Not only Pakistan, Many of their nations could only be managed either by a hard core dictator or a King.
Strong rules are must for them.
Democracy is not successful in many of their nations for lack of principles and respect for law. They are mostly rebellious.

    Mr.Mahendra Shetty

Even my wish too, Pakistan will going to finish soon. Apart from this, what we can do. We Indians are just fit for boasting ourselves of our might or if somebody does cleaning of terrorists start condemning them whether is Congress or BJP, Policies doesn't change unless our mind change. And believe me or not, in reality we are a big zero in guts. We are fit for condemn Israel one who helped us during Kargil war when whole world (US & Europe)put arm embargo on us.
I had so much expectations from BJP after seeing their pre election statements given by many leaders especially from duo Modi and Sushma Swaraj when our soldiers head decapitated. Hope, you too not forgotten those words. For me duo's harsh words still spinning in my ears. They must answer for their voters for their such promises. Their present action shows they are not going to change their policies in future too.

mr pinto,if a country has nuclear bomb then waging war against them is not guts instead it is foolishness.even if we win the war against them,we have to undergo lots of damage.what bjp was criticizing upa was not to go ahead with war against pakistan but to retaliate in the same manner for the ceasefire violations pak was commiting and inflict the same number or double the number of casualties it was inflicting against india and to reply to the beheading of 5 soldiers in the same manner which it was doing so that pak has to think twice about commiting the same mistake againwhich upa was not doing and it showed the impression to world that india was weak and dumb.if palestine and iran had nuclear bomb israel could not show the aggression it is showing today.so india should adopt chanakya neeti to weaken pakistan from inside ao that it crumbles into numerous pieces and encircling it thru afghanistan and balochistan.this should be done as fast as possible and nda is on its path towards this direction.in 5 years modi will get the job done for indias national security.modi is such a intelligent and shrewd guy.you will get to know about his splendid work at the end of 2019.
