New Delhi, Sep 7 (Agencies) : The BJP chief Amit Shah, who triggered a controversy by his communal tensions remarks, on Sunday faced flak from the Opposition parties as both the Congress and the NCP called his remarks 'Unfortunate'.
While urging Election Commission and courts to take cognizance of the matter, the Congress' senior leader Manish Tewari on Sunday said that the remarks are nothing more than unfortunate.
Besides him, the NCP's Rajya Sabha MP Majeed Memon said that Amit Shah, who is spearheading a political party, must understand his responsibility. “His statement is unfortunate and dangerous,” added he.
Meanwhile, Shah, who is on his two-day visit to West Bengal, visited Dakshineswar Temple in Kolkata today.
Shah, who is visiting the state for the first time after taking charge as BJP chief, is meeting the office- bearers of the state to discuss the present situation in the wake of alleged repeated attacks on BJP workers.
He is expected to discuss strategy to help BJP expand its support base and make electoral gains in the state with special emphasis on the need for strengthening the party at the village level, sources said.
Earlier, while participating in a television show, Shah had said that his party will get two-thirds majority in Haryana, and will also form governments in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly polls later this year.
Moreover, he had also said that if communal tension continues in Uttar Pradesh, his party will form the next government in the state. This remark stroked a controversy.
"Maharashtra and Haryana are going to the polls. Why is there no communal tension? Why only in UP? If communal tension continues in UP, I can tell you, the BJP will form the next government in UP with a clear majority,” said Shah.
