Mangalore: Beedi contractors demand companies to increase commission

Mangalore, Sep 9: "Beedi companies should increase the commission for beedi contractors. Already we have discussed this issue with the owners of beedi companies but they have not agreed to increase the commission. The contractors will not work unless they get Rs 15.60 per 1,000 beedies," said Mohammed Rafi, working president of South Kanara- Udupi District Beedi Contractors Union (R).

He was addressing the press meet in Pathu Mudi Soudha, Janatha Deluxe here on Tuesday September 9.

"We have stopped our work and will not start until the owners increase the commission. Beedi contractors are like link in the industries," he added.

On this occasion M Sureshchandra Shetty, honourable president, S Aliabb, president, chief secretary V K Shareef Puttur and others were present.
