Unicef aid to Guinea to fight Ebola

Conakry, Sep 13 (Xinhua): Unicef will continue to support Guinea in its fight against the Ebola virus disease outbreak by providing necessary materials, the agency's Regional Director for West and Central Africa Region, Manuel Fontaine, has said.

Fontaine was speaking in Conakry Friday after meeting Guinea's President Alpha Conde to discuss the ongoing war against Ebola, Xinhua reported.

"Unicef will play a role in communication and mobilisation of the population, helping to avert panic and negative information that creates complicated situations. All this will be done to help Guinea," he said.

By the end of August, Unicef had offered Guinea 430,000 soaps, 230,000 chlorine vials, over 20,000 posters, 500 hand washing points, 100 motorcycles and other communication materials to be used in the Ebola-hit regions.
