'Fiji general election results disappointing'

Suva, Sep 22 (IANS): Fiji's Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Monday termed the results of the 2014 General Elections as "disappointing."

The party intends to conduct an inquiry into irregularities and aspects of the conduct of elections, FijiLive reported.

"If FijiFirst's victory is legitimate, then they have nothing to fear from such an inquiry," SODELPA chief Ro Teimumu Kepa said.

"It was important to pursue these concerns to ensure it does not happen again in future elections," Kepa said.

SODELPA questions the election results based on credible evidence.

She admitted the evidence they have in their record at this stage would not be sufficient to change the outcome of the 2014 election, because they do not have access to all election-related information.

In Fiji's 50-member parliament, SODELPA has won 15 seats.
